Kathryn Elliott-Hudson, Gambling Treatment Specialist

I am a therapist specializing in the treatment of problem gambling and those affected by another’s gambling. I began treating problem gamblers in 1998, and this has become my mission: to empower individuals impacted by gambling addiction to become who they were meant to be.

I believe that we all have within us the tools to live life to its fullest, but these tools have somehow been masked by addiction. I help my clients uncover these tools so that they can again believe in themselves, restore balance to their lives, and become the complete, whole individuals that they were meant to be.

My goal is to provide the highest quality treatment to problem gamblers and those affected by another’s gambling. My treatment goal for my clients is to provide them with the tools they need in order to learn to live their lives without gambling. With these tools, my clients are able to bridge the gap from gambling addiction to recovery.

Clients are treated with respect, dignity and compassion. Individualized treatment plans are developed to meet an individual client’s needs. A treatment plan is designed to promote growth, healing and empowerment.

I provide the following services:  assessment, diagnosis and treatment. Treatment is primarily based on cognitive behavioral approach and mindfulness. Other modalities are used depending on a client’s needs.

Problem gambling can affect many areas of a person’s life: mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, spiritually. Not everyone is impacted in all these areas. However, these are the areas where there is most likely deficits due to the disease.

This statement by Ralph Blum expresses my thinking about overcoming an addiction: “Nothing is predestined. The obstacles of your path can become the gateways that lead to new beginnings.”
